Ripley Valley State Secondary College - Your Questions Answered

With construction now in full swing and just over two months to go until the first day of school at the new Ripley Valley State Secondary College we wanted to help answer some of your important questions about the new school.

When does school start next year?

Students start school on Tuesday 28th January 2020.

What year levels will be available?

Ripley Valley State Secondary College will open for Years 7 and 8 students in 2020 and grow each year to offer Year 7 to 12. The school master plan identifies further staged development as the school grows to accommodate the full Year 7 to 12 enrolments.

What facilities will the school have?

The high school will open in 2020 with and administration building, junior general learning areas, junior applied technology and design graphics centre, robotics centre, business fashion and design graphics centre and sports field. The first stage will also deliver a hospitality centre, art and design centre, senior applied technology centre and indoor and outdoor sports courts.

Who is eligible to enrol at Ripley Valley State Secondary College?

The school will cater for enrolments from the local catchment area. Full catchment details are available HERE.

How many students will be attending?

Total enrolments for the school have now passed 100 with a more expected before the start of the new year.

Who is the Principal?

Brendan Krueger has been appointed at the Foundation Principal for the new school. Mr Krueger has moved to the area after completing his role as the principal of Longreach State High School. Prior to Longreach, he was a deputy principal at Hervey Bay State High School and Bundaberg State High School as well as a casual lecturer with Central Queensland University.

Is there a P & C?

Yes. The Ripley Valley State Secondary College Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association encourages closer cooperation between the school, parents and the wider community. P&C Association members work with the Principal and school staff on behalf of the students’ families to foster an interest amongst the parents in educational matters as well as fundraising to provide financial resources for the school.

When does the school day start and end?

The school day will start at 8.45am and finish at 2.45pm. The start and finish times are designed to coordinate with drop off and pick up at the new primary school. It is also to help spread out the school traffic in the mornings and afternoons as the primary hours at 9am-3pm.

What are the class times?

After a 10min access class each morning, students will have 4 x 70min lessons each day.

Information on what subjects are being offered will be available shortly. First break is from 11.15am to 11.45am and second break is from 12.55pm to 1.35pm.

Will there be an Extension Program and/or a STEM program?

Yes. An 'Ignite' Program at the school will cater for High Performing Students. Throughout this program the school will be completing STEM Projects encompassing Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths principles all while working on reading and writing development. This program will be personalised to our participants. For those students that are not part of our IGNITE program, STEM principles will be covered in subject areas and future growth will see specific Programs and Pathways for our students!

Will there be an Orientation day for year 7 and 8's this year?

Yes! The date is set for December 6 from 8.45am to 2.00pm. The school is inviting parents to come for a bite to eat from 1pm and have the students take you for a tour around the campus. To attend your child needs to have completed all the Enrolment paperwork. All students and families that have enrolled will be receiving confirmations and invitations this week.

Will there be buses to the new school?
